The surroundings are dedicated to lovers of Nature, Botany, Zoology and Birdwatching. This is particularly true for Lake Omodeo: it represents the area of greatest biological diversity in Italy, both plant and animal. In fact, the area is included in the list of Sites of Community Interest for its significant landscape and environmental importance. Many people practice birdwatching. Moreover, one can bathe in its completely pure water and observe the woods of holm oak, white poplar, brittle willow, field elm, ash, tamarisk, downy oak, laurel and the well-known Mediterranean scrub. On the lake with the best fauna in Italy, you can find the peregrine falcon and the osprey; the sea jay, the common owl and the little piro piro. Waterfowl include the common pintail, pochard, common shoveler, teal, wigeon, coot, moorhen, mallard, gadwall, greylag goose, egret, white heron and grey heron. The most common amphibians and reptiles are the Sardinian discoglosso sardinella, tarantuline tortoise, marsh tortoise and Herman's tortoise. Other fish include shad (agon), royal perch, black bass, queen and mirror carp, catfish, and colourful carp ranging from golden yellow to amber and especially red.
